Anyone who has planned a traditional wedding knows that it can be an incredibly stressful task to plan and create one of the most memorable days of your life. It seems like there are a million decisions to make; from securing a venue, picking a theme, narrowing down the guest list, creating and sending out invitations, registering for gifts, finding the perfect florist, and booking a DJ. All to make your day look as "Pinterest Perfect" as your wedding pin board that you've spent months (Maybe years) creating.
To some, this might sound like a lot of fun, I mean you're basically planning a big party, right? Not exactly. The truth is most brides are in a constant state of stress from the time they get engaged until the night of their wedding. Why else do you think there is a television show dedicated to "Bridezillas"? Let's just say there's a good reason why destination weddings are on the rise and that reason is, less stress.
Getting married truly is one of the most significant days of your life, and it shouldn't be tainted by all the expectations we put on the aesthetics of a traditional wedding. Why not ditch all the stress of planning a big wedding and instead book a destination wedding where you and your future spouse can kick back, relax, and let someone else do all the heavy lifting for you? Here are 5 reasons why destination weddings are better than traditional weddings.
1. Less Planning
When you decide to have a destination wedding, the only thing you really have to do is choose a destination. Once you book your travel agent books your accommodations and airfare, the rest is taken care of by the resort. Most resorts offer wedding packages that include everything you could possibly want in a tropical beach wedding or mountain top nuptials. All you have to do is show up.
2. More Affordable
The average US wedding costs $26,445.00. That's a lot of money for a single day of celebration. This cost doesn't even include the honeymoon. I know I'm not the only one who thinks this is absolutely insane?! Destination Weddings on the other hand cost between $8K-$15K,which includes a week long stay, meals, activities, and your wedding ceremony (Which is often times free when you book a certain number of nights).
3. Quality vs. Quantity
When you have a wedding that takes hours of travel to attend and a little bit of extra dough on your guests part, it's going to weed out a lot of people from attending. Look at this as a blessing. The people who make the journey to attend your wedding will be the most important people in your lives. You'll get to spend quality time (Learning to surf, lounging on the beach, etc.) with those closest to you, as you celebrate one of the biggest milestones of your life. I can't really imagine a better vacation.
4. Exploring New Places
New experiences are a major driving force behind happiness. Why not start your marriage off on a happy note, by filling your wedding week with new adventures together! Explore those ancient ruins, spend the day on a deserted island, learn to Scuba dive, take a cooking class together, or chat up the locals. I promise the memories you make together while exploring a foreign land will last way longer than the blink of an eye memory, that most traditional wedding days become.
5. Bragging Rights
Lets face it - part of the allure of a destination wedding is the actual destination and showing it off in your beautiful wedding photographs.
